Lyrics – Volume Two

Unicorns

While you were out saving unicorns
I was in here braving the endless norm
So were you successful?
And are you now feeling restful?
Come and sleep my friend, you’re looking worn

I see you’ve been out collecting dew for the lawn
But lately I’ve been reflecting on last night’s storms
Did you not hear the thunder?
Or were you so way out yonder?
Come and sleep my friend, it’s nearly dawn

Searching for mermaids’ hair, the sky’s been torn
I saw it ’round here somewhere I could’ve sworn
I hope you can reach that far
You might have to stand on a star
Come and sleep first my friend, banish those yawns

The Phoenix has passed away, you quietly mourn
A pile of embers lay to be reborn
He is now reincarnated
A bird to be celebrated
No time to sleep my friend, come blow your horn
No time to sleep my friend, come blow your horn

Going Down

She went mad today
Decided to throw it all away
Lost control on the superhighway
We’re all going down

What a trial pleasure can be
Burning your files for some privacy
But we end up telling all on TV
Tune in now ‘cos we’re all going down

Hey the circus is coming to town
But more than one man will be playing the clown
Roar with laughter as he keeps falling down
We’ll see him their ‘cos we’re all going down

They’ve got an army that can see in my mind
But I can see that they’re killing mankind
And I can see that the blind lead the blind
It’s no surprise that we’re all going down

Came to our senses tonight
But it’s too late for us to win the fight
It doesn’t matter any more who is right
The end is here so we’re all going down
The end is here so we’re all going down
The end is here so we’re all going down

Falling Down

Let all the bombs rain down
Let all the bombs rain down
Bring them on their town
I don’t mind

Let all their bombs rain down
Bring them on this town
Time to raze it to the ground
I don’t care

Falling down
Falling down
Falling down
Falling down

The bombs are raining down
There’s no escaping now
Falling all around
I don’t know why

Falling down
Falling down
We’re falling down
We’re falling down

War & Peace

When the soldiers come home
I will be the only one alone
War is over it seems we won
But for me peace is yet to come

I don’t want to talk to you
And there’s nothing left to do

Let’s all retreat
Ticker tape in the street
Bow our heads in defeat
Heroes we’ll greet

Oh, this is just history
Now, this is just history
Now, we are all history

I lost my lover in the war, the fight is over for them I’m sure
If I could send a dove to them, let’s be at peace my love my friend

It’s dark and I don’t know where I lay
I live in the night and sleep all day
I don’t know who’s sleeping next to me
In this forgotten place I’ll always be

I don’t want to talk to you
And there’s nothing left to do

Let’s all retreat
Ticker tape in the street
Bow our heads in defeat
Heroes we’ll greet

Oh, this is just history
Now, this is just history
Now, we are all history

I lost my lover in the war the fight is over for them I’m sure
If I could send a dove to them, let’s be at peace my love my friend
Was it me who fired the gun that broke your sweet heart? What have we done?
And even when their memories cease I’ll think of you in war and peace

Let The Sunshine In

We have joined the lonely hearts in their search for brand new starts
But these so called new leaf ways will soon be our autumn days
Too bad that you’re too good, things don’t turn out as they should
And of all the things I know this is one I can’t let go

Let the sunshine
Let the sunshine in

It will be a nice surprise just to look into your eyes
Somewhere deep there time stands still like on the top of rolling hills
Where figures on the landscape rise up their hands towards the skies
It will come to them one day only then I’ll hear them say

Let the sunshine
Let the sunshine
Let the sunshine
Let the sunshine in

What can fill this empty space that I no longer can embrace
And you’re too sad to raise a smile but if I wait around a while
Then we can spread our wings and fly, those that stay will wonder why
So let us open up the door before we lose the key once more

Let the sunshine
Let the sunshine
Let the sunshine
Let the sunshine in

Her Song

Have you heard about the bird
Who flew into the air and never came down?
She took to the skies with no goodbyes
Leaving behind the emptiest nest you’ve ever seen

She’s up there now flying around
That’s where I want to be

How I miss her song in the silence since she’s gone
Oh what I would do to hear her again

She’s up there now singing aloud
That’s where I want to be
That’s where I want to be

So I build my wings out of wax, feathers and string and leap off the mountainside
I’m flying
I’m flying

Got too near to the sun in my lust to see my one
And I crashed back down in a wreck on the ground

I’m up there now and it seems somehow I am where I wanted to be
We’re up there now flying around
My little bird her song and me
My little bird her song and me
My little bird her song and me

Architects

When the sun goes down I’ll know it’s time to lay down
Close my eyes, I don’t want to see the sunset die

Far away I can hear the children play in the streets
But don’t they know that it’s not a place for children to go anymore

Broken wrecks are inevitable side effects of the machine’s
Accidents they will happen but forget them

Blame it all on the architects whose mad designs have turned No into Yes
And our friendship into loneliness, they have left my world landscapeless

Hollow trees are the last refuge of monarchies on the run from
Conspiracies, but the axe will fall with ease

Preacherman converts the people with a slight of his hand
Collects the money in a gold-plated can, don’t you know he tries to save all he can

Marching On

One is marching on
One is marching on
One is marching
One is marching on

Two are marching on
Two are marching on
Two are marching
Two are marching on

Ten are marching on
Ten are marching on
Ten are marching
Ten are marching on

A hundred are marching on
A thousand are marching on
Ten thousand are marching
A hundred-thousand marching on

A million are marching on
A million are marching on
A million are marching
A million are marching on

Yes you can turn the other way
I think I’ll turn the other way
But I can still hear them marching
Still hear them marching
Still hear them marching
Still hear them marching on
Marching on

Defeated

Defeated, Defeated
In this life I’ve been beaten

Defeated, Defeated
From this life I’ve retreated

And I’ll come back again
To fight another day
But not today

And I’ll come back again
To fight another day
But not today

Victorious, Victorious
To win at last is glorious

Victorious, Victorious
And taste success against the odds

I know the day will come
To give back all I’ve won
But not today
But not today
But not today

The Code

Standing out on the edge of the precipice, my sands of time seem to stall
Lost my footing there, it’s so easy to do, like a catcher drops the ball
And so it’s plain to see the writing’s on the wall
But there’s a long, long way to fall

When the whole world is spread out below, it’s hard to choose where to touch down
That’s when it’s best to let gravity, pull you back towards the ground
So it’s plain to see that no matter where we’re bound
If we’re lost we can still be found

Had a visit, on the way down, from my friend the Agency Man
Took my name, took my money, then he took away his hand
So it’s plain to see that if you do the best you can
You’ll have no legs left to stand on
And then they’ll banish you from this land

Out on the sidelines, from the bench, the Captain tells me to change ends
He’s watching my demise, slowly unfurl, through his shattered spyglass lens
And still it’s plain to see we should all try to make amends
With our disloyal audience

There’s a way out of this, but I wish I knew how to decipher The Code
Signalling up to me, but it’s still too far, how should the procedure go?
But it’s plain to see if I could just get rid of this load
I’d be free just to float back down
Not as hail but as snow

Mountains are there to be climbed, and to fall back down from
So Mountaineers, on the way up, just make sure your ropes are strong
And it’s plain to see anything can and will go wrong
But at the summit there’s a long, long view
Face to face with the sun

Fifty feet per second is not so fast, if you’re not going anywhere
It’s a different story when the end’s in sight, and the wind is in your hair
So it’s plain to see that life is hard to bare
Just as I’m held up by air

Calling all stations, emergency crews, is there nothing you can do?
We are facing a Red Alert, but the call was overdue
And it’s plain to see that to you it was out of the blue
But all along I knew this was on its way
So I’ll just enjoy the view

Nearing the finish, not long to go, of my tale of the long descent
And when it’s over, I hope I find out what the hell it all meant
It’ll be plain to see we’ve got to give back what was lent
And receive what we sent

And then I realise, four foot from the ground, this is my last chance left to fly
Or maybe I’ll hover here, for a little while more, between an impact and the sky
And so it’s plain to see that it’s hard to say goodbye
So I’ll give it one more try
Let’s give it one more try
I’ll give it one more try
